Compress Image to 1 MB
Aim for a maximum of 1 MB for photo submissions where more detail is useful. The size is preselected; reaching it depends on your image and the settings you allow.

JPG / JPEG, PNG, WEBP · Up to 20 images · 15 MB each · 60 MB per batch
Still images only. Maximum 8 megapixels and 8192px per side.
Your images are processed directly in your browser and are not uploaded to our servers.
Files stay in this tab until you clear them or leave. Re-encoded JPG/WebP and resized images may lose metadata and change colour rendering. Lossless PNG keeps colour and orientation chunks; original fallbacks retain their metadata. Always check the downloaded image before sharing it.
How to use Compress Image to 1 MB
- Select or drop JPG, PNG or WebP images into the tool. File content is checked before processing.
- Check the preselected 1000 KB target, quality floor and resizing permission.
- Press Compress images. Each file is processed in a background worker.
- Review the actual sizes, dimensions and comparison previews. Open the download to inspect full detail.
- Download each result or prepare a ZIP of completed images. Keep your originals until you are satisfied.
Work within a 1 MB file-size limit
A 1 MB limit can retain more detail than smaller attachment budgets, but it is not a guarantee for every resolution or format. If the original already fits and recompression does not improve its size, the original is offered instead.
Control the trade-off between detail and bytes
This tool treats 1 MB as 1,000,000 bytes, a stricter limit than 1 MiB (1,048,576 bytes). The minimum quality starts at 35% and dimensions remain unchanged unless you allow resizing.
How the target search works
The tool measures encoded bytes after each attempt. It searches JPG/WebP quality within your selected range, then tries smaller dimensions only if allowed. PNG remains lossless at each chosen resolution and does not use the quality slider. The search is bounded; if it cannot meet the limit, it returns the smallest tested result with an honest warning.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can every image reach 1 MB?
No. Resolution, image detail, format and permitted quality all affect the final size. A target miss is clearly labelled; try allowing smaller dimensions or choose another supported output format.
Does 1 MB mean an exact size?
No. The goal is at or below the stated byte limit. Files are never padded to match an exact size. The result shows the actual output size.
Will the tool change my format or dimensions automatically?
The original format is preserved unless you select another format. Target-driven resizing is off by default and requires your permission. Explicit resize-to-fit settings also preserve the aspect ratio.
