Compression settings

Formats are never changed silently. Unsupported browser encoders show an error.

A maximum size to attempt, not an exact-size guarantee.

Automatic uses 82% quality. Lower quality generally saves more bytes but can introduce artefacts. PNG ignores this setting.

Pixels. Images are never enlarged. Resizing changes image detail, including for PNG.

Files stay in this tab until you clear them or leave. Re-encoded JPG/WebP and resized images may lose metadata and change colour rendering. Lossless PNG keeps colour and orientation chunks; original fallbacks retain their metadata. Always check the downloaded image before sharing it.

How to use JPG Compressor

  1. Select or drop JPG/JPEG images into the tool. File content is checked before processing.
  2. Choose automatic optimisation or adjust quality, format and optional resizing.
  3. Press Compress images. Each file is processed in a background worker.
  4. Review the actual sizes, dimensions and comparison previews. Open the download to inspect full detail.
  5. Download each result or prepare a ZIP of completed images. Keep your originals until you are satisfied.

Choose the right JPEG quality

JPG and JPEG refer to the same format. Automatic optimisation uses 82% quality; turn it off to choose a different value. Lower settings generally produce smaller photos, but can create blocky edges, blurred texture or bands in smooth skies. The actual encoder is provided by your browser, so identical settings can produce different file sizes on different browsers.

Keep photo orientation, review metadata

The browser applies image orientation when decoding and the output is drawn in that orientation. Re-encoding normally removes camera and location metadata, and colour profiles may be normalised. This tool is not a forensic metadata scrubber. If the original is smaller, it is offered unchanged, including its original metadata.

Compress a batch of photographs

Add up to 20 JPG/JPEG images and choose a shared quality level. Resize to a bounding box if the full camera resolution is unnecessary. Processing is sequential, and a failed image does not stop the other photos. Download the completed photos separately or prepare a ZIP archive.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is JPG compression lossless?

No. This tool re-encodes JPG with a lossy JPEG encoder. Keep the original if you need an untouched master image.

Why was my original JPG offered?

A JPEG that is already efficiently compressed can become larger when re-encoded. If the result is not smaller, the original is offered and the result message explains that resizing was not applied.

Can this tool accept PNG?

This page accepts JPG/JPEG only. Use the main compressor to choose another input format and explicitly select JPG output. Transparency must be replaced with white with your permission.
